The case of the 29-year-old domestic helper has been referred to a court in Dammam, the police wrote in a letter to her  employer. The case was filed with the court on June 29.

A report on the case had also been sent to the Adjudication Division of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration by the Philippine recruitment agency that deployed Rosalinda (not her real name) to work in Saudi Arabia.

John Leonard Monterona, Migrante-Middle East regional coordinator, told Arab News on Tuesday that he had asked the Philippine Embassy to hire a lawyer to defend her in court.

Monterona said Rosalinda called him on Monday to ask for assistance, telling him that she did not steal the wedding ring.

She also said there was no way she could be charged of the theft because she had no permission to enter her employer's bedroom, where the wedding ring was allegedly kept.

Rosalinda was detained at the Dammam Central Jail for five days. After that, she was brought to the Saudi Social Welfare Administration (SSWA) facility in Dammam.

Rosalinda arrived in the Kingdom on Aug. 4, 2010, to work for a Saudi family in Alkhobar.
