Deutsche Lufthansa AG carried 50.2 million passengers in the first six months of 2011. This represents an increase year-over-year of 10.1 percent in the number of passengers opting to fly with carriers in the Lufthansa Passenger Airline Group. The group raised capacity in the term by 11.9 percent, while sales rose by 9.1 percent. The seat load factor fell by 1.9 percentage points on the prior-year level to 75.4 percent. Passenger numbers grew in all traffic regions but the biggest rise came in Europe, largely owing to the improved traffic performance of Lufthansa Passenger Airlines in the region. Larger aircraft and the introduction of the new cabin on European routes increased capacity in the first half 2011 as well as sales and the passenger count. Overall, the Lufthansa Passenger Airlines raised the number of passengers in the first half by 14.8 percent to a total of 31.2 million. Capacity was up by 14.5 percent, sales by 11.4 percent. The passenger load factor fell against the year-earlier level by 2.1 percentage points to 75.7 percent. Passenger numbers for Lufthansa Passenger Airlines increased in all traffic regions and most of all in Europe as well.

Etisalat, the Export-Import Bank of China and Huawei International Pte. Ltd., announced the signing of the memorandum of understanding for strategic cooperation encompassing Etisalat’s entire footprints of 18 countries. Under the terms of the agreement, Huawei and Etisalat will continue to work together to provide innovative new technologies and services across Middle East, Africa and Asia to enrich people’s life with emerging telecom technologies; and China EXIM Bank will extend finance support to the cooperation of the two companies. The pact was signed Nasser bin Obood, acting/chief executive officer Etisalat and Yuan Xingyong, assistant president China EXIM Bank and Ji Ping, the executive vice president of Huawei. The signing ceremony took place at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi. Ji Ping said: “The agreement is the enhancement in our strengthening partnership. A partnership not just limited to our companies, but also of our two great nations and people.”

Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) has started the fourth phase of the 70,000 refrigeration ton (RT) district cooling network from the Bay Square until the end of Business Bay on north west side. This forms part of the company’s move to provide integrated district cooling services to the entire Business Bay project. The company had announced earlier the completion of third phase of the project which includes "The Bay Square" extending to the rear of the Executive Towers with 50,000 refrigeration ton (RT). Empower has implemented the project with a high level of efficiency, seamlessness, precision and within the set budget and timeline. Ahmed bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, said: “We have divided the implementation of district cooling network of Business Bay, which is one of the busiest and dynamic business spots not only of Dubai but also of the Middle East, into three phases as per demand and supply. We worked according to the timeline by constructing temporary and semi permanent work stations. Best of breed technologies were used in constructing this world class network to ensure highest performance and quality.” Bin Shafar said the project plays a crucial role in saving natural resources by saving electricity and water consumption in all the residential and business units.
