- BASRA, Iraq: Iraqi officials say an apartment building has collapsed in a southern town near the Kuwaiti border, killing four people and injuring at least six others.
The mayor of Zubair, Abbas Rashim, says rescue teams are searching for people who might still be trapped in the rubble after Monday morning’s collapse.
The apartment building was built in the 1960s and had several shops on its ground floor.
A hospital official says two children were among the dead. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to release the information.
Zubair is just south of the port city of Basra. It is 355 miles (570 kilometers) south of Baghdad.
