- LONDON: British car factories have posted a strong gain in output in August thanks to the export market.
Figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders showed that total production rose 10.7 percent compared to August last year.
The gain was solely due to a surge in exports, which were up 18 percent.
Production for the home market was down 9 percent.
For the year through August, total production is up 4.4 percent.
Export production is 19 percent higher and domestic production is down 34 percent.
