- KHARTOUM: Iran wants to give economic support to Sudan and help improve infrastructure in the African ally that has been hit hard by an economic crisis, Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said during a visit to Khartoum.
Iran is a big supporter of Sudanese President Omar Hassan Al-Bashir.
Sudan, which has lost much of its oil wealth to South Sudan, is keen to expand trade ties with Iran.
Most Western firms avoid Sudan due to a tough US trade embargo.
“We want to expand ties to Sudan more and more,” Ahmadinejad said after meeting Bashir.
“Sudan and Iran will stand together to defend the Islamic entity.”
