Eugen Adelsmayr landed in Vienna early Wednesday. He says he plans to return to Dubai once his trial resumes, declaring “I’m not a quitter.”

The specialist in internal medicine and an Indian colleague are accused of causing the death of a paraplegic patient in 2009 through a drug overdose and neglect. The 52-year-old denies wrongdoing.

He was allowed to leave Dubai after protracted efforts by the Austrian government on humanitarian grounds — his wife is suffering from an unspecified disease.
