Beshr Bakheet, chairman and CEO of BIG, said the concept of launching this fund was made after a comprehensive in-depth research of the Qatari economy and its listed companies.

The following are listed as among the positive indicators:

* According to the World Economic Forum, Qatar ranked as first and most competitive economy in the Middle East region and moving up to 14th position globally.

* GDP per capita expected to exceed $100,000 in 2011 and is considered to be the highest globally.

* The real GDP growth rate for Qatar approached 16 percent in 2010, and the inflation rate is — 2.4 percent (negative inflation).

* Government external debt as a percentage of GDP is 15 percent in 2011.

* The unemployment rate in Qatar, is 0.5 percent of the total labor force of the country.

* Qatar is a member of WTO since 1996.

According to a statement, BIG expects that Qatar financial market and its listed companies to grow rapidly during the near term driven by positive economy indicators in addition to large size of government spending directed mainly to the infrastructure projects ahead of Qatar FIFA world cup 2022.
