Sandila will succeeds Adm. Noman Bashir as the country’s chief of naval staff. Adm. Bashir retires on Oct. 8.

The outgoing naval paid a farewell call on Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani here this morning at the PM’s House.

He apprised the prime minister about the welfare projects completed during his tenure as well as the latest developments regarding training and education of personnel in the navy.

These welfare projects include construction of houses for retired CPOs/sailors, construction of residential estate at Younusabad, Karachi, for serving sailors, induction of women officers and women sailors in the navy, Adm. Bashir said.

The Prime Minister appreciated the contributions made by Adm. Bashir to boost the training and living standards of sailors.

Gilani also applauded the role being played by Pakistan Navy in relief, rescue and rehabilitation of flood victims in Sindh and other nation-building efforts undertaken during earlier calamities and natural disasters.
