- JEDDAH: The number of acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) cases among Saudis dropped 9% in 2010 compared to 2009 and 13% compared 2008, said Dr.
- Ziad bin Ahmed Memish, deputy health minister for preventive medicine.
He said the total number of people tested HIV positive during 2010 reached 1,121 including 439 Saudis and 682 foreigners. Total number of AIDS patients registered in the Kingdom from 1984 till 2010 reached 16,334, including 4,458 Saudis, the minister said.
"The number of foreigners suffering from AIDS was three times more than Saudis," he pointed out. Among the Saudi AIDS patients in 2010, 362 or 82.4% were in the age group of 15 to 49 years, he said, adding that the ratio of men and women patients stood at 4:1.
