- BERLIN: German authorities say they have searched the homes of six former SS men in an investigation into a 1944 massacre of hundreds of civilians in Nazi-occupied France.
Dortmund prosecutors said in a statement Monday that searches in four German states last week turned up no important evidence in their investigation of the men, whose names were not released.
The Germans killed 642 men, women and children at Oradour-sur-Glane on June 10, 1944, the worst wartime massacre in France.
The men are all believed to have been part of the “Der Fuehrer” regiment of the “Das Reich” SS armored division.
Prosecutors say the men, aged 85 to 86, either deny being present for the massacre or their health prevented them from giving statements.
