Van Acker, who finished eighth in the class at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, has two wins and a second among her finishes in the one-person dinghy. Marit Bouwmeester of Netherlands is in second place, followed by Paige Railey of the United States.

Racing continues with the ninth and 10 races on Saturday, followed by Sunday’s medal events.

Lee Korzits of Israel has the lead in the RS:X women’s sailboard class, also with eight of 10 races held. Marina Alabau of Spain is in second place, followed by Zofia Noceti-Klepacka of Poland, also ahead of Saturday’s final two races in the class.

In the men’s 470 — two-person dinghy — class, defending world champions Mathew Belcher and Malcolm Page of Australia won the seventh race in the 10-race series Friday off Bathers Bay near Fremantle to extend their lead over British pair Luke Patience and Stuart Bithell.

The Australians have five wins and the British duo have four, although Patience and Bithell were ninth in Friday’s race.

Racing in 10 Olympic classes, which will provide the bulk of qualifying for next year’s sailing program at the London Games, continues until Dec. 18.
