The council was unable to hold any meetings so far because the election result in one of the constituencies was contested.

The complaints committee had disputed the election of Abdullah bin Dakheel Allah Al-Muhammadi and decided to hold a new round of voting.

Al-Muhammadi took his case to the court of appeals, which ruled in his favor, but he was not allowed to take his seat on the council. The case was finally solved by Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs Prince Mansour bin Miteb, who upheld the court ruling.

Al-Muhammadi has now become the seventh elected member and will take his seat on the council.

The council comprises 14 members, of whom seven were elected and the other seven appointed by the minister of rural and municipal affairs. Mayor of Jeddah Hani Abu Ras is an ex-officio member.

The sources close to the council told Arab News that the cleanliness of the city would top the agenda to be discussed by the council in its first meeting.

They said other topics on the agenda included a number of files inherited from the previous council.
