- JEDDAH: Director of the Health Affairs in Jeddah Dr.
- Sami Badawood has commended the efforts of public hospitals in the city last year.
These efforts were clearly expressed through the health and medical attention provided to citizens and foreigners through emergency services, outpatient clinics, surgical operations and others, he said in a statement on Tuesday.
Badawood said the hospitals have a combined capacity of 2,077 beds and have extended medical treatment to 770,512 patients, of whom 89,530 were admitted to hospital for an average of 13 days. Of all those admitted, 73,248 were treated and discharged, while the rest were still receiving treatment. The rate of bed occupancy was 72.05 percent.
The director said a total of 31,402 surgical operations were conducted and 12,416 babies were born in these hospitals. Ambulances transported 1,176,468 patients to the emergency wards.
Badawood said he expected a big leap in the health services upon the completion of a number of hospitals currently being constructed in the northern and eastern areas of Jeddah.
