Approximately 300 children from Jeddah and Makkah attended the event and listened to the opening speech of Thai Consul General Chalee Sakolvari.

“Children are the future of our nation. We are in charge of them and should become good role models showing kindness and love as children will automatically learn from older people and adopt their behavior. In other words, adults are responsible for the country's future prosperity,” said Sakolvari.

The Children’s Day is a celebration that takes place at different times in various parts of the world to entertain children and create awareness about their significant role for a country’s development. In Thailand it is celebrated every second Saturday of January and is known as “Wan Dek”.

The Children's Day is usually given a different theme and slogan every year by the Prime Minister of Thailand. This year’s motto is “Unity with Knowledge, Preserve Thai Identity, Mind the Technology”.

The annual event to acknowledge the rights of children is deeply felt in Thailand where the king and prime minister hold official speeches and the Parliament, Royal Air Force and Royal Army usually open for children to pay a special visit.

At the Consulate General of Thailand in Jeddah, the organizers arranged many games including a tug of war, musical chairs, and a sack race. The children also exchanged gifts and enjoyed food and drink prepared by the consulate and the Thai community.
