- JEDDAH: The second Jazan Carnival started on Saturday.
- The weeklong festival is the biggest of its kind in the Kingdom.
The carnival, part of the Jazan spring festival, is organized under the patronage of Jazan Gov. Prince Mohammed bin Nasser and sponsored by Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities in collaboration with the Tourism Promotion Council of Jazan region.
The carnival shows the very best of Saudi theater, art and talent. More than 400 students, Saudi professional artists and theater talents are participating. “The activities include a panoramic show on the culture and beauty of the city and surroundings, entertainment programs, Saudi theater, art information on tourist venues and cultural programs,” said Mamdouh Salem, the carnival’s producer.
The main aim of this carnival is to provide entertainment to the region and increase the concept of the local entertainment industry. It also aims to attract international visitors to build cultural bridges between the artists of Saudi Arabia, the Gulf and other countries.
Saudi artist Abdul Majeed Al-Rida participated in the carnival for the second year. He wished the Jazan Carnival would become a world famous carnival, like Rio de Janeiro’s annual carnival in Brazil.
“I am pleased that I could take part in the carnival again. It’s a great event and I am sure people from the Kingdom and abroad will enjoy it. As tourism develops, the carnival will become a distinctive annual event,” said Al-Rida.
