Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, who is also chairman of the Higher Commission for Monitoring Pilgrims’ Transport, has issued directives to present a research report on the topic to the Follow-up Committee of Public Transport in Makkah and the Holy Sites to see if introducing this technology is a feasible option.

The study on the possibility of using suspended transportation technology in Makkah was prepared by the Center of Excellence for Haj and Umrah Research at Umm Al-Qura University.

The governor issued the directive after reviewing the report presented to him by Umm Al-Qura University President Bakri Assas. During the meeting, Assas also briefed the governor on the recommendations of a workshop organized by the Center of Excellence in October 2011.

Several experts and researchers from within the Kingdom and abroad attended the workshop on “Suspended Transportation and Crowd Control,” organized in cooperation with the Transport and Crowd Management Center at Toronto University.
