The prince’s address in the seminar will focus on the humanitarian and social aspects in the history of King Abdul Aziz, the Saudi Press Agency reported Friday.

“The prince will speak on the features that distinguished the founder of the Kingdom King Abdul Aziz. Those features spring from the teachings of Islamic Shariah and Sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon him), especially the founder’s close relations with citizens. The later kings followed the path paved by King Abdul Aziz,” Supervisor of the chair and Professor of History at the King Saud University Abdullah Al-Sabeei said in a statement.

The prince is also expected in his speech to cite numerous incidents of humaneness and the close attachment between King Abdul Aziz and citizens, he said.

Noted historians and researchers from the Kingdom and abroad are expected to participate in the three-day seminar.

The prince will also open an exhibition on the sidelines of the seminar.

The activities of the chair include publication of historical documents. It has already published Portuguese documents shedding light on European link to the history of the region.

The chair was established in 2009 by the King Abdul Aziz Foundation for Research and Archives (Darah) in collaboration with the King Saud University. It organized its first workshop at the Darah headquarters in June 2010. It was officially opened in July 2010 in a ceremony attended by Prince Salman, KSU Rector Abdullah Al-Othman and Darah’s Secretary-General Fahd Al-Sammari.

The chair’s objectives include conducting and supporting researchers in the history of the Arabian Peninsula, organizing international seminars, publish research findings and establish research partnerships with other academic centers of history.

The chair also envisions achieving international leadership in academic studies on Islamic and Arab civilizations and history. KSU has provided it with technical and financial support needed to conduct quality historical research, as well as a diverse and highly specialized research team. In addition, the chair attracts ambitious young Saudi students to its program, cultivating a new generation of researchers.

The chair also focuses on translating historical documents related to the Arabian Peninsula into Arabic.
