Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah approved launching of the electronic university in September last year.

“The courses of the electronic university will be in line with the plans for higher education in the Kingdom,” Al-Mousa said, while expressing thanks to the minister for his appointment.

The university is a government educational institution that provides electronic education based on information and communication technologies and the techniques of e-learning and distance learning, Al-Anqari said on an earlier occasion.

The multibillion university will have faculties of administrative and financial sciences and computing and informatics in addition to a faculty of health sciences. It will provide intensive courses to help prepare Saudi students for roles in business and industry as well as research and development.

The university will offer a range of courses in the field of electronics and its applications, providing bachelor's and master's degrees, while also offering other non-electronics related courses.

The Kingdom’s annual budget allocated 26 percent to education with the aim of enabling the country to achieve outstanding progress in education, Al-Anqari said while speaking at a function at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday.

The minister said the Kingdom attracted brilliant scholars who can make pioneering contributions to the development of education in the country. The country also has 131,600 students studying abroad.
