Huawei claims to have created the world’s slimmest smartphone and it arrives in the region in April. The Huawei Ascend P1 S is 6.68mm thin and features a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED 960 x 540 touchscreen with Corning Gorilla Glass. The Ascend P1 S is also the fastest and most compact smartphone in its class with a dual-core 1.5GHz TI OMAP 4460 Cortex-A9 processor running Android 4.0, "Ice Cream Sandwich." The handset offers 8-megapixel BSI rear-facing and 1.3-megapixel HD front-facing cameras with dual flash LED and HDR effect optimization. The smartphone provides 1080p HD video-capture and data connectivity through 3G, WiFi and Bluetooth, with built-in social media capabilities. Be aware that there is also the Ascend P1, which is about a centimeter thicker and won't fit as well in a jeans pocket.
 

More than a year in development, Angry Birds has come to Facebook. The game has long been available on mobile and desktop platforms, but Rovio has created this new version with unique features, including power-ups intended to give users a boost in competition. The game is free to play, but the power-ups will cost players $1 for 20 uses. The Facebook version takes advantage of Adobe Systems' Flash Player 11 with support for 3D graphics included, offering enhanced special effects such as lighting, smoke and explosions running smoothly at 60 frames per second. Personalized avatars will be available soon. Rovio is offering "free goodies" to those who "like" the app and join the launch party at www.facebook.com/angrybirds.
 

Numerous sources have pointed to an alarming rise in hearing loss among young adults who have used headphones for years to listen to audio at high volume. Kidz Gear has just introduced an Apple version to its line of wired headphones for children. The headphones are ergonomically designed with soft padded child-sized ear-cups and high quality audio components. The Apple version incorporates a unique “KidzControl" volume limiting technology with maximum volume levels limited to between 80dB and 90dB. Other features include an inline microphone and a remote with controls for skipping tracks and increasing and lowering volume. The headphones retail for $30.
 

Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) has introduced an iOS app which is proving to be a big hit. On several days this past week, "ALKAHRABA," rose to the top of the leader board at Apple's download world. This first version of the electricity app has an Arabic interface and offers seven options including bill inquiry, checking on service requests, information about and directions to service offices, e-Bill registration and subscription to SMS services. The company plans to release similar Android, Blackberry and Windows apps in the future and they're already planning a second version of the app with additional services.
