- The specialized summary court yesterday heard the replies of five alleged members of the Turki Al-Dandani terrorist cell accused of carrying out the May 2003 terrorist attacks against housing complexes in Riyadh.
The attacks killed or injured at least 239 people, including women and children. The court is trying 85 defendants in total.
According to court sources, Defendant Nos. 26, 44, 45, 55 and 56 denied all charges against them, which among others included attacking military, oil and industrial installations, resisting security men and firing at them.
Other defendants were not able to appear in court for various reasons, including illness. They asked for more time to respond to the charges against them.
The judge began the session by reading out to the defendants the confessions they made during investigations. He told them they could not retract their confessions that have been documented according to the Shariah law.
