Clarkson tipped Petr Sykora’s hard drive past Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist at 2:27 to give the Devils their second lead of the game, and Carter pushed New Jersey ahead by two at 4:21. Carter, who has three goals this season, hadn’t scored since Nov. 19 — a 37-game drought.

Carter also fought Brandon Dubinsky in the first period, a bout that knocked the Rangers forward out of the game with a hand injury.

In Columbus, Ohio,  Jack Johnson scored his first goal for Columbus, Steve Mason made 38 saves and the Blue Jackets got their first three-game winning streak in more than a year.

Mason, who struggled all season until recently, has allowed just four goals in two wins over Phoenix and one over Colorado in the last six days.

In Toronto,  Jordan Caron and Tyler Seguin scored two goals each and Boston beat Toronto for the fifth time this season.

Chris Kelly also scored and Tim Thomas stopped 25 shots to help Boston end a two-game skid.

Carl Gunnarsson, John-Michael Liles, Phil Kessel and Mikhail Grabovski scored for the Maple Leafs, who have been outscored 28-10 in the five meetings with the Bruins.

In Washington,  Justin Faulk scored at 3:38 of overtime, Cam Ward stopped 46 shots, and Carolina beat skidding Washington.

Faulk took a centering pass from Brandon Sutter and fired the puck past goaltender Michal Neuvirth to saddle Washington with its third successive defeat, although the Capitals did get a point by forcing overtime late.

After suffering two straight shutout losses, both at home, Washington went ahead 2-0 before Carolina came back to take the lead on a breakaway goal by Sutter at 1:45 of the third period.

In Nashville, Tennessee, Justin Williams scored twice to lead Los Angeles to its third straigth win.

Drew Doughty, Matt Greene, and Trevor Lewis also scored for the Kings.

Patric Hornqvist scored twice and Martin Erat and Sergei Kostitsyn had the other goals for Nashville, loser of two of its last three.

With the score tied 3-3 after two periods, Greene put the Kings ahead at 1:15 of the third on a slap shot from the right point.

In Tampa, Florida, Milan Michalek scored three third-period goals, helping Ottawa withstand a Tampa Bay comeback attempt.

Ottawa, which took a three-goal lead early on, went up 5-3 when Michalek scored a power-play goal at 12:12 of third. The left wing added two empty-goals, including a short-handed effort with 7 seconds left to give him 32 goals this season.

Tampa Bay got within 4-3 when Steven Stamkos scored his league-leading 48th goal of the season during a power play at 5:41 of the third.

In St. Louis, Jaroslav Halak won his sixth straight start to match a career best and St. Louis’ penalty killers ran their streak to 32 stops in a row in a win against Chicago.

Andy McDonald scored two goals and Vladimir Sobotka had a short-handed score for the Blues, who are tied with the New York Rangers with a league-best 91 points pending Vancouver’s late home game against Dallas.

In Philadelphia, Claude Giroux, Jakub Voracek, and Max Talbot scored goals to lead thje Flyers.

Ilya Bryzgalov allowed a goal to Henrik Zetterberg on Detroit’s first shot of the game. Johan Franzen made it 3-2 in the third.

The Flyers won on the night they retired former defenseman Mark Howe’s No. 2 and raised the number to the rafters.

In Calgary, Alberta,  Jarome Iginla scored his team-leading 26th and 27th goals to lead Calgary.

Iginla’s second goal of the night with 1:18 left in the second period gave Calgary a 4-2 lead.

Curtis Glencross scored the eventual game-winner at 7:16 of the third period as Canadiens goalie Carey Price went behind the net and on his attempted backhand clear and put the puck right on the stick of Glencross, who scored his 23rd goal into the empty net to make it 5-2.

In Denver, Jamie McGinn scored the first of a four-goal flurry in the second period and Semyon Varlamov stopped 21 shots for Colorado.

Jay McClement, Jan Hejda, Mark Olver, Ryan O’Reilly, David Jones and Cody McLeod also scored for the Avalanche, who have won six of eight to climb back into the playoff picture.

Devin Setoguchi scored for the Wild on a penalty shot early in the third to break up Varlamov’s shutout bid.

In Vancouver, British Columbia, Mike Ribeiro scored twice and surging Dallas took the Pacific Division lead by beating Vancouver.

Ribeiro’s 16th goal of the season midway through the third period provided insurance when he tipped a Michael Ryder pass behind goalie Roberto Luongo.

In the second period, he gave the Stars a 2-1 lead 2 minutes 53 seconds after Loui Eriksson tied the game for Dallas.

In San Jose, California, Sam Gagner scored the only goal in the shootout to help the Edmonton Oilers snap a three-game losing streak in San Jose coach Todd McLellan’s first game back from a concussion.

Jordan Eberle and Ryan Smyth scored in regulation for the Oilers. Devan Dubnyk made 28 saves and stopped all three San Jose attempts in the shootout as the Oilers dealt another blow to the Sharks playoff hopes.
