- JEDDAH: The prices of Saudi stocks moved upward for several weeks in a row on relatively high turnover.
- The market was in the grip of emotions as investors were more inclined to buy Saudi scrips.
On the weekly chart, the Tadawul All-Share Index (TASI) while moving diagonal in the north touched the intra-week high at 7,399.87 points; stepped down on its last trading day of the week but continued the upward march to close the weekend at 7,374.92 points. The index accumulated 103.08 points for the entire week, up 1.42 percent. On Year-to-date basis it has achieved a healthy return of 14.91 percent.
Total market capitalization of Saudi stock exchange reached at SR1.45 trillion as compared to previous week's SR1.42 trillion, an increase of 1.6 percent. Small Cap performed well relatively as it posted a weekly growth of 3.0 percent to close at 3,980.13 points.
Market participants responded positively for the week. More than 3.1 billion shares changed hands on the Saudi stock market; trading volume was up 45.7 percent over the previous week's 2.2 billion shares. Alinma Bank liquidated SR3.9 billion at Tadawul and remained the most active stock on value basis.
Sector indices at Saudi stock market ended the week with modest gains. Transport and Industrial Investment sectors outperformed, both added 619.77 points to reflect a weekly growth of 6.6 percent and 6.1 percent respectively. Transport sector with 35.8 percent year-to-date growth remained prominent among all Saudi stocks. On the other hand, Banks & Financial Services sector trimmed 258.9 points for the week to close at 1,6548.33.
The market breadth was strong for the week as 102 stocks witnessing advances against 42 stocks witnessing declines.
Saudi Mobile Telecommunications Co. (Zain) with 411.7 million shares topped the volume chart for the second consecutive week. It also showed a weekly performance growth of 18.01 percent which is the highest among all Saudi companies. On the other hand, Saudi Arabian Amiantit Co. with 9.34 percent decline became the worst performer of the week.
