In an exclusive interview with Arab News on Thursday, the company's president Emad Fahad Aldoghaither said Semanoor is offering e-book technology to the government sector, publishing houses, educational institutions and authors.

He said the important features of this offering are: Providing an e-platform equipped with Web 2.0 interactive book technology, formatting the book with more than 40 different formats such as Galaxy Android, iPad and iPhone, creating an account at the leading sales platforms like the App store for direct control over sales reports.

Other applications include marketing the book through social network sites like YouTube, Twitter and Facebook, displaying the book through a virtual e-library to display new releases, launching a site for the book on the World Wide Web to link readers with new editions and to communicate with them.

Aldoghaither added: “It presents a host of solutions for the academic entities like schools, universities, institutions and training centers that aspire to use the Web 2.0 technology in education and training.”

The Semanoor technology solution, he said, focuses on shifting the culture of e-content creation to educational entities and enables the teachers and students alike to be producers of knowledge and content through the interactive and social content engines and technologies.

With regard to Semanoor web2, Aldoghaither said it is a comprehensive e-platform that lays the foundation of the infrastructure required for any school or university as it was designed to host all kinds of educational formats and media in an interactive library that is automatically indexed.

Outlining the products and area of coverage of Semanoor, Aldoghaither said the company has three main products designed for different age groups, namely simulation system, electronic education and electronic publishing. He said every source has various products, such as Allama Bikalam, educational and electronic games under the simulation system. Under electronic education are electronic university, schools and institutes, while electronic publishing features electronic books, library and stories.

With offices in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Jordan, Canada, India and Lebanon, the company is a partner of the Ministry of Education, King Abdul Aziz City for Science and Technology, Badir Information Technology, King Abdullah Initiative for Arabic Content, House of Ottoman Illustration, Intel and E Home Automation.

There are also sub websites for e-story authoring, an international site on the World Wide Web designed in Arabic and other languages aiming at enabling young innovators to produce e-stories utilizing more than 500 cartoon characters and thousands of backgrounds and images, in addition to being an open source for countless other additions. He added: Members can produce an animated notion movie by selecting their character of choice and animating it in the environment of their choice and add sounds.

According to the Semanoor president, his is the first and only company in Saudi Arabia that produces electronic games on the Sony PlayStation 3 platform. It present the latest simulation techniques and virtual reality through a series of entertaining and educational products aimed at nationalizing the technology and to position itself at the forefront of this leading industry.

The important service provided by the company is the online exhibition (www.Rbook.com) whereby one can virtually visit the Riyadh book fair from anywhere in the world. "We are showing this visual exhibition and are taking advantage of the technology before and after the show," Aldoghaither said, adding that they are collecting all the data for market analysis to know what people like and how they behave in choosing books they want to buy.

He said this visual exhibition helps a visitor to the fair anytime and anywhere, whether he is in Riyadh, Jeddah, or outside the Kingdom anywhere in the world.
