- RIYADH: The Justice Ministry has opened doors for victims of malicious claims to demand compensations for any damage they may incur as a result of these claims, local Arabic daily Al-Watan reported yesterday quoting the ministry's official spokesman.
"The victims of malicious claims have the right to demand compensations from claimants whether government or private entities or individuals," said Mansour Al-Ghifari.
He said it was left to the discretion of the judge to assess the kind and value of compensation as there were no specific Shariah rules on such cases. "The compensations may be decided by the judges of the general courts of the Justice Ministry of the administrative justice of the court of grievances," he explained.
Al-Ghifari said under the Kingdom's laws, anyone has the right to file a lawsuit but his lawsuit might be considered malicious if the claimant failed to present evidence to support his claims.
He said the Council of Ministers had issued rules and regulations specifying the malicious claims and ways of dealing with them.
Meanwhile, a report by the General Department of Statistics and Information said there are 636,098 cases currently being considered by 272 courts all over the Kingdom.
