On arrival, she was received by the Deputy Foreign Minister for Protocol Affairs Alauddin Al-Askar and senior officials from the foreign ministry were present. Bangladesh Ambassador Mohammed Shahidul Islam and diplomats from his mission were also present at the arrival lounge of King Khaled International Airport (KKIA).

The visiting minister is expected to hold talks with her Saudi counterpart Prince Saud Al-Faisal today. She met her community members at a reception held at the Bangla House, residence of the Bangladesh ambassador in Riyadh, yesterday.

According to a senior official from the Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh, Moni's discussions with Prince Saud will focus on bilateral issues. Her visit takes place on the heels of Saudi embassy official Khalaf Al-Ali's murder in Dhaka on March 6.

Talking to the press on Monday in Dhaka, prior to her departure to Riyadh, Moni said the Saudi government expressed its satisfaction at the quick initiative of the Bangladesh government to investigate the case. She said the investigation into the killing of the Saudi official continues and action would be taken in accordance with the findings of the inquiry report.

The foreign minister said the government would welcome any investigation team from Saudi Arabia to assist Bangladesh in tracking down the criminals.

Al-Ali, second secretary at the Saudi Embassy in Bangladesh, was shot by an unidentified man around 2 a.m. while he was walking near his home in Dhaka. Police found Al-Ali’s body at an intersection just two buildings away from his residence in the city’s upmarket Gulshan district and rushed him to a hospital where he died three hours later.

The Saudi government has demanded adequate protection for all staff working at its embassy in Dhaka, according to a communiqué issued by the Saudi Foreign Ministry following the tragedy.
