Pakistan’s Ambassador Muhammad Naeem Khan hoisted the national flag at a ceremony held in the embassy premises in Riyadh. Messages of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani were read out.

Speaking on the occasion the ambassador said the day “reminds us of the struggle and sacrifices made by our forefathers for a separate homeland. Now it is our responsibility to make the country a strong welfare state,” he said. He said Pakistan has been put on the path of democracy and it is time we respected law of the land.

In Jeddah, Consul General Abdul Salik Khan hoisted the national flag at a ceremony at his residence. The ceremony began with recitation of the verses from the Holy Qur’an. A large number of Pakistanis, especially women and children, attended the function. President and the prime minister’s messages were read out by the consul general.

The consul general said March 23 reminds Pakistanis of the commitment made by our forefathers to make Pakistan a strong, prosperous and progressive country.

He said that as ambassadors of the country, all expatriates should keep the country’s flag high by their hard work and dedication.

He urged members of the Pakistani community to stay united and disciplined and work for the development of the Kingdom and Pakistan. National songs were sung on the occasion. A function was also held at the Pakistan International School Jeddah (English Section) to mark the occasion.

School Principal and Sen. Sehar Kamran hoisted the flag at the school premises.  In her speech she said: “My dear students in tomorrow’s world you have to prove yourselves… the institute from where you have acquired your education has brimmed you with the responsibilities and realization of being Pakistanis. It’s just not a day to celebrate but to renew your pledges to serve Pakistan. You have to use your capabilities and fulfill your national obligations toward your country. Whatever career you choose you have to fulfill your responsibilities. The day when you realize your responsibilities for your homeland you will not only gain respect for yourself, your family and institution but will justify yourself.

“You are not acquiring education for yourselves but also for your country. Any nation can only progress when the young generation is educated… when the people are ready to take on the challenges of the world. You should have faith and hope to step forward. You are not only making your career but future of Pakistan and you will surely accomplish success. Remember, leisure is easily attained but to gain and maintain respect isn’t that easy.”

Sehar said: “Your priorities should be faith, loyalty, unity and discipline. If you take a responsibility today things will be brighter tomorrow for a brighter Pakistan.”

She said whatever she had accomplished was because of Pakistan.
