“Learning a language is a skill, and skill learning is a continuous and dynamic process to gain competence. Stage performance is one way through which the facts deposited in the cognitive domain are transformed to the psychomotor domain. In other words, transformation of learned facts from one learning point to another helps retention in the memory,” said Majaziya Mubarak, the principal of SLISJ.

“The English day, held after a lapse of nearly a decade, places a welcome emphasis on the value of engaging everyone in the school community and especially the students themselves in the task of shaping the school environment and making it a happy place for teaching and learning,” she added.

She said that the stage to some extent compensated for what is lost at home in the phase of development of the child.

Children between 3 and 14 years participated in the show and performed dynamically on different programs. Children gave an exceptional performance on a special play, “A Rocking Class,” in which they demonstrated the importance for a teacher to be involved with the students.

The welcome speech was given by student Abdullah Niyas, and a vote of thanks were given by Yasir Naller. Sumiya Elyas and Thimasha Raja hosted the show in an excellent way.

The children got applause from parents and teachers for several performances. The winners sang poems, and all the chairpersons of the school were honored.

Chief guest Adam Bawa Uthmalebbei and other distinguished guests, parents, teachers and children appreciated the performance and efforts of teachers and students.

Founding chairman and adviser to the board of management Shahul Hameed Salih rendered a formal welcome to all and said they were proud to host this English day.

“I thank the principal, Majaziya Mubarak, for her hard work and endeavor. English is a language widely spoken by the global population. The stage is set for the children to showcase their skills and talents to their parents and gain recognition,” said Salih.

He also thanked the consul general, all previous chairpersons and the board of management for their support.

Sri Lankan Consul General Adam Bawa Uthmalebbei praised the hard efforts of Chairman Shahul Hameed Salih, Principal Majaziya Mubarak, the board of management and the children, and he appreciated the support of parents.

He stressed on the importance of the English language and emphasized the need to keep the name of the school up on a par with the other international schools. He commended the excellent standard and the values imparted by some events staged.

“What would the SLISJ be without its children? Academic excellence along with co-curricular activities will be the benchmark in the future. We provide a platform to our children to showcase their talents and discover a new fact of their personality and due recognition,” said the principal.

She thanked Adam Bawa Uthmalebbei and Shahul Hameed Salih as well as the teachers for their tremendous support and help.
