Indian Ambassador Hamid Ali Rao, who is credited with launching this new community welfare initiative, will be present at the Open House. “A number of embassy officers from different sections will also be available,” said Surinder Bhagat, a spokesman of the Indian Embassy, here. “Our goal is to resolve issues and help those workers, who have been facing problems and hardships in this country,” added Bhagat.

“Hence, I urge all my compatriots in distress to come to the embassy and tell us their problems,” said the spokesman. Bhagat said workers would be able to meet the envoy personally as well as other officers and discuss their consular, labor and welfare-related problems or any other issue/issues of community interest. All officers will be present at the Open House from 9 a.m. to 12 noon today.

He also recounted the success of the previous two Open House events. “The successes of the two previous events have encouraged us to organize this third Open House,” said Bhagat.

Saudi Arabia is home for over two million Indian workers.

A large number of them have been living and working in the Central Province. The Indian diplomatic missions have been receiving a number of complaints from Indian expatriate workers on a daily basis. Most of the problems are labor-related, while some are legal and crime-related in nature.
