In a press statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency on Tuesday, the municipality urged all customers to alert workers of eateries to abide by health, hygienic and safety rules and regulations.

The municipality said consumers must ask workers to wear their health card if they are not. Similarly, they have to ask them to wear head cover, mask and gloves in addition to changing dirty or ragged ones.

According to the statement, customers may contact the municipality through its toll free number (940) or website (www.jeddah.gov.sa) if they found any eateries violating the municipality’s regulations.

In the meantime, the municipality has intensified inspections of restaurants, coffee shops and cafeterias since the beginning of this week. The municipal inspection teams are checking utensils for cooking food and tools for serving dishes. They also ensure that eateries are not serving rotten or expired food.

The inspectors have raided 1,961 food outlets and detected 1,231 violations during the week. The inspectors have taken on-the-spot action against violators of regulations by forcing workers to wear a health card, head cover, mask and gloves. One restaurant in Al-Saheefa district was shut down and fines imposed on many violators, the statement added.
