- The women committee of the Saudi Diabetes Endocrine Association (SDEA) will conduct its “First Women Health Forum” on April 29 at Al Andalus Hall, Dammam, to highlight various aspects of Saudi women’s health.
The objective of the forum is to increase awareness of the alarming prevalence of obesity, diabetes and osteoporosis among Saudi women. These diseases negatively impact their health medically, socially, psychologically and economically, and are considered devastating and lowering the quality of life and productivity of women.
Selected speakers with various medical specialties from Saudi Aramco, King Fahd Specialist Hospital and Laila Al-Enzy Medical Center will participate in the forthcoming event and present their topics that include Alzheimer’s disease.
This educational event, which will be conducted under the theme of “My Life… My Health,” will include an exhibition for nutritional companies, measurement of body mass index, blood sugar, blood pressure, in addition to interactive discussions on healthy shopping, cooking and dining.
The event will include many activities, said head of SDEA’s women committee Dr. Latifa Al-Jaffer, and will be conducted in cooperation with many women societies in the region.
The event, which is important in shedding light on the silent diseases affecting Saudi women, will discuss the best awareness tools and techniques to address the alarming rates of obesity among Saudi women that has reached above 50 percent, in addition to the increase rate of osteoporosis where 50 percent or more of Saudi women above the age of 50 suffer from or at risk of developing the disease.
Diabetes is also one of the leading diseases affecting Saudi women and society as a whole and its prevalence has reached 28 percent for people above the age of 20.
