KACST President Muhammad Al-Suwayyil will open the seven-day event.

The carnival will also underscore the Kingdom’s national policy on science and technology, which aims to spread awareness about the importance of science and technology among society.

“The KACST has strove to develop and invest in science, technology and invention that will lead to a knowledge-based society,” Supervisor of Media and Public Relations Department at the KACST Mansour Al-Otaiby said in a statement to the Saudi Press Agency yesterday.

The carnival’s 32 pavilions are designed in such a way to fascinate visitors, especially young people, interested in science and technology.

The event also aims to take the wonders of science and technology from within the walls of laboratories out to the common man. Principles of science and technology will be presented in a simple manner that common people including children will understand them, the statement said. Visitors to the weeklong event will watch and interact with a number of research experiments in various fields. The experiments will cover topics such as the economic use of energy, Saudi satellites, space and aviation technology, robotics, astronomy, information systems and computer technology, petrol and gas, petrochemicals, biotechnology, water, nanotechnology, advanced building technology and protection from radiation.

It will also enable visitors to participate in various science contests and amusement programs featuring Saudi stage actors.

Yusuf Al-Jarah, an actor participating in the carnival, said he will present a drama focusing on the scientific progress achieved in the country.

Daily prize draws for visitors will also be arranged.

The visiting time from 8 a.m. to 12 noon is reserved for school and university students while the general public can visit the event between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m.
