The workshop focused on the ways of providing students with dynamic, active learning experiences and gave a platform to interact with those who had international exposure in training on a global level.

“Well-trained teachers have the instructional tools to create student-centered, active learning classrooms and when students become successful learners, everyone wins,” said Rose Potter, an international trainer.

The workshop was attended by top DPS Riyadh officials including DPS Chairman Nadeem Tarin, Principal Mairaj Mohammed Khan and DPS Finance Director Khursheed Shah. The workshop was part of an ambitious training program launched by the DPS Riyadh to provide new teaching skills to teachers.

Referring to the process of learning, Potter said: “There are different types of learners---Kinesthetic Learners, Read-Write Learners, Auditory Learners and Visual Learners.” These categories need further elaboration and research to put into practice, she added. The workshop, which was followed by a question-and-answer session, also focused on strengths and weaknesses as well as other problems faced by teachers, which need to be addressed to ensure world-class teaching in any institution.

Three extraordinary educators from Texas participated in the training workshop, including Richard Flores, a senior associate dean for academic affairs for the College of Liberal Arts and professor of anthropology and Mexican American studies; Rose Potter, master teacher and LOTE (Languages Other Than English) Specialist; and Anjum Malik, co-founder of Alhambra Chamber of Commerce, United States.

DPS Principal Khan inaugurated the workshop. He pointed out that the objective behind holding this high-profile training session for teachers was to help them cope with the methods of active learning. DPS Chairman Tarin and Finance Director Khurshid Khan presided over the workshop session jointly and welcomed the international trainers to the DPS Riyadh premises. “DPS Riyadh has a strong educational system and is making admirable efforts to strengthen it further,” said a US trainer Malik. “In recent years, Saudi Arabia has made great strides toward becoming a regional and global educational leader,” she added.

Malik said Saudi educational advancement deserves all praise and appreciation. Many of the Saudi and foreign schools like DPS Riyadh are offering world-class education to students of all ages. Malik, an innovative manager and marketer with 30 years of extensive experience in the fields of international education, educational consulting, and business negotiation at both US and international levels, has been visiting DPS from time to time to counsel educators and faculty members.
