A large number of visitors and revelers over the weekend were seen in the valley after the opening. Prince Sattam had ordered the head of the Projects and Planning Center, Ibrahim bin Mohammed Al-Sultan, to develop the area around the lake of the dam from the southern side, opposite of the Corniche, which is 2,000 meters long and 50 meters deep.

Al-Sultan stated the Wadi Namar rehabilitation project included smoothing flood valleys and other elements that will provide the projects with necessary infrastructure and services.

Prince Sattam’s directions also include the implementation of footpaths that can also be used as a seating area for visitors enabling them to watch the lake and the surrounding valley from the dam. The governor also instructed Al-Sultan to illuminate the area around the park, including the lake, the mountains overlooking it, and footpaths, so that they could be served as a venue for family gatherings and open spaces, and consistent with the natural environment.

Al-Sultan said that Prince Sattam’s directive to add more facilities and tools for the park underlines his interest and care for the needs of the community living in Riyadh, and his eagerness to meet their wishes in various fields.

The project includes environmental preservation of Wadi Namar, the creation of a lake two kilometers long, the establishment of a corniche overlooking the lake dam, refinement of streams, establishment of local roads and lighting and guidance systems, and improving traffic arrangement to serve ranchers and hikers.

Other measures include implementation of services, providing trees, palms and native plants, coordination of sidewalks and walkways, as well as provide the site with facilities and services.

Meanwhile, King Abdullah Road has become a landmark of the capital in terms of safety, quality, and environmental friendliness. Comprehensive plans have been prepared by the HCRD to develop the road network in the city, including the development of King Abdullah Road.

A new type of asphalt made from recycled tires was also used for the first time in the Kingdom in order to reduce noise and reduce the likelihood of sliding vehicles in the event of rain, as well as protecting the environment.

With respect to road layouts, the plan is to improve movement and the entry and exit of vehicles from streets leading to main roads, and strengthen paths.

The plan also includes construction of a tunnel between King Fahd Road and Olaya Street to facilitate smooth flow of traffic as well as creating a nice environment for pedestrians. To ensure the performance of the tunnel, the plan includes the provision of security and safety systems, emergency services, early warning mechanisms, automated fire systems, special systems in the event of power outages and where vision is limited to guide people to safe exits on both sides of the tunnel, engineering equipment, and traffic management systems.

To ensure the flow of air into the tunnel, ventilation fans will operate in both directions. They can also be reversed in case of fire and help to increase the effectiveness of fire-fighting operations.
