- The Saudi Red Crescent Friends Committee at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) will organize today a special event to mark the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, which falls on May 8 every year.
JCCI Secretary-General Adnan Mandura said the program, which will be held at Ismail Abudawood Hall at the JCCI headquarters, would highlight the significance of voluntary work. He said that the committee conducted a series of seminars prior to the event.
Ahmad Al-Sheikh, president of the committee, said a number of programs and activities would be held across the Kingdom to mark the day. These programs would focus on the initiatives of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority (SRCA) and its humanitarian work, especially for people affected by natural calamities and other disasters worldwide.
This year’s Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, with the theme “Youth on the Move,” will focus on various programs aimed at spreading the message of voluntary work among the younger generation.
The committee, with the objective of encouraging the spirit of volunteering in charitable work, joined hands with SRCA in organizing health awareness programs. It also supports SRCA’s humanitarian mission, in addition to giving training to community members in first aid.
