- MANAMA: Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, Chairman of Rotana Group and owner of Alarab news channel met with Bahrain’s King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa at a dinner hosted by the king in Manama on Tuesday.
During the dinner Prince Alwaleed and King Hamad reviewed a number of social, economic and media issues. The meeting touched upon the latest developments in the GCC as well as Arab and international issues.
Prince Alwaleed and Sheikh Fawaz Bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, president of Information Affairs Authority of Bahrain signed an agreement for Rotana and Alarab Channel headquarters’ new location in Manama. They also addressed a press conference.
“This is the strategic step for Rotana and Alarab news channel and a giant leap for media in the region, ” said Alwaleed.
Rotana Group is a diversified media company in the Middle East. It is the world’s largest producer of Arabic music and a key distributor and producer of Arabic movies with a library containing more than 1,600 movies.
In 2011, Prince Alwaleed announced “Alarab” will be the name of his new international news channel.
Jamal Ahmad Khashoggi will be managing this new 24-hour channel, which will target Arabic-speaking viewers across the Arab world and beyond.
The dinner hosted by King Hamad in honor of Prince Alwaleed was attended by Dr. Walid Arab Hashem, vice chairman Rotana; Fahad Alsukait, CEO Rotana Group; Jamal Khashoggi, general manager of Alarab news channel; Yahia Al Masri, COO of Alarab Channel; Heba Fatani, senior executive manager, Corporate Communications Department; Nahla Alanbar, private executive assistant to the chairman; Hassna Alturki, head of travel and external affairs; and Hani Agha, senior manager for travel and external affairs.
