In a letter addressed to King Abdullah, he thanked the king for relieving him from the prestigious position on health reasons. "Looking after the affairs of the two holy mosques is a big duty and I am thankful to you for relieving me from a duty which I cannot fulfill now with its vast responsibilities," he said.

Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais has been appointed the new Haramain chief. Al-Hosain, who said he was honored to serve the two holy mosques during the past years and commended the king's initiatives to implement projects such as new Haram expansion, covering of Zamzam well, expansion of the circumambulation area around the Holy Kaaba and reorganization of movement of people in the courtyard near Ajyad Gate.
