Sultan Al-Dousari, director of the Department of Studies and Public Relations in the governorate, said Prince Khaled would preside over the meeting of the municipal councils in Al-Kamil and Khulais, review the execution of development projects, meet with dignitaries, listen to the demands of the citizens and try to resolve their problems.

"The governor is keen to initiate transparent discussions with the top officials and the heads of government departments accompanying him about the development projects and the causes of delay if any," he said.

Al-Kamil and Khulais are the fourth and fifth leg of the Prince's tour which he had started earlier with visits to the regions of Al-Jamoum, Rabigh and Jeddah. Since he took over as governor of Makkah Province more than five years ago, Prince Khaled made it a point to make annual tours of all the regions in the province.

Al-Dousari said the governor was closely following up the implementation of the strategic plan formulated by the governorate to achieve balanced development in all the regions, districts, villages and hamlets of the province.

He said the master plan of the province had addressed a number of targets including the establishment of the economic and social integration of all the regions and districts of the province, the creation of new development centers and an equal distribution of the economic base so as to reduce development disparities and curb migration from the countryside to the major cities.

Al-Kamil, which has recently been classified as a level "B" region, has an area of about 10,000 sq km and a population of about 30,000. It consists of four main districts: Al-Ghiraif, Al-Qaoor, Al-Harrah and Al-Hanoor. It has more than 200 villages and hamlets.

The demands of the Al-Kamil region include the establishment of sports clubs, Civil Defense centers and police stations in the major districts. The residents have also called for connecting the region with neighboring Khulais with an asphalted road, the establishment of branch municipalities, chamber offices and the expansion of the hospital to 50 beds and the addition of more medical specialties such as cardiology, orthopedics and dermatology.

During his visit to Al-Kamil last year, Prince Khaled ordered the construction of four buildings for King Abdul Aziz University in the region at a cost of SR 70 million consisting of three hostels for girls and a hostel for boys. He also laid the foundation stone for municipal projects consisting of a park and a water-drainage project.

Khulais, an "A" level region, has a population of 80,000. Its residents have asked for the development of the underdeveloped areas, supplying the region with greater quantities of desalinated water, establishing a sewerage network, the construction of a public park and a health unit.

They also called for having a number of government departments including security patrols, Civil Defense, passport police, traffic, the Prosecution and Investigation Commission (PIC), civil affairs department and social security office.
