The newly-launched Arabian Power Electronics Co. (APEC) opened its world-class manufacturing facility in Alkhobar yesterday. The factory is described as the first and only one of its kind in the Kingdom. It will manufacture power electronics equipment such as uninterruptible power supply systems, battery chargers, inverters, frequency converters and solar power systems.
Eram Group President Abdullah Al-Tuwaijri and APLAB founder P.S. Deodhar inaugurated the high-tech plant in the presence of Eram Group Chairman and Managing Director Siddeek Ahmed, Chief Technical Consultant Mohammed Al-Jofaish and top executives from Saudi Aramco and Saudi Electricity Co.
“For decades, Saudi Arabia and all the GCC countries have been importing very large quantities of industrial power electronics equipment from all over the world,” said Siddeek Ahmed. “It is my dream to substitute these imported goods with locally manufactured products. This country has given me so much, I want to return that gratitude with some solid contribution to this economy.”
The new manufacturing plant will bridge the gap between demand and supply, he said.
“The one unanimous choice for partnering this joint venture was APLAB, a leading power electronics manufacturer from India with over 50 years of pioneering experience in the power electronics field,” he said. “The willingness of APLAB to author this project jointly with Eram Group gave a new shape to the joint venture.”
Eram Group, the local partner, has a global presence in 11 countries. Its extensive business development experience in the Kingdom promises to provide the real thrust toward the success of the new project.
“APEC aims to transfer the technology to the Kingdom and localize the highly sophisticated technology of power electronics,” said Deodhar, who is regarded as the father of India's power electronic industry.
“APEC will, over the next few years create a pool of highly skilled Saudi manpower in the field of power electronics,” he said. “APEC will turn out to be leader like we are in India.”
The plant's current installed capacity is to produce 200 units of UPS systems, 500 battery chargers, 100 inverters, 100 frequency converters and 100 solar power systems.
