KHARTOUM: Egypt’s President Muhammad Mursi said yesterday that cooperation between the regimes in Cairo and Khartoum does not pose any threat and yet they face “enemies,” during his first visit to Sudan.

“We in Egypt and Sudan are integrated, and you will find enemies for this integration,” Mursi stressed before thousands of people, including his Sudanese counterpart President Omar Al-Bashir, at Al-Noor mosque in Khartoum North.

“This cooperation is not against anyone,” Mursi said, adding the two countries “don’t seek a war or aggression” against others.

Mursi, a former Muslim Brotherhood leader, assumed office last June after a popular uprising toppled long-time President Hosni Mubarak in 2011 as part of the region’s Arab Spring revolts.

He arrived on Thursday evening for his first visit to Sudan, which Egypt jointly ruled with Britain until 1956, and was to leave later yesterday.
