IN MEMORIAM: Medical workers in Saudi Arabia who died fighting COVID-19

Dr. Abdur Rahim: The Bangladeshi doctor, who was a general practitioner at Bin Laden Poly Clinic in Jeddah, died on May 19.

Dr. Ahmed Yahya: The Egyptian orthopedic consultant at King Faisal Medical Complex in Taif passed away on July 8 after contracting COVID-19 while performing his duties at the hospital. Yahya, who was in his fifties, was renowned among colleagues for his dedication and good manners.

Dr. Golam Mostafa: The doctor, who worked at the Agul Health Center in Madinah under the Ministry of Health, died on June 16. He had retired four months previously after working for more than 34 years at the ministry and was waiting to return to his home country Bangladesh.

Dr. Anwar Ul Hasan: The general practitioner, who worked at the Badruddin Poly Clinic in Batha, Riyadh, died on June 13. He was reported as helping many people in the community.

Dr. Afaq Hossain: The first doctor known to have died from COVID-19, Hossain became infected while treating patients at Safa Al-Madinah Poly Clinic in Madinah. The 62-year-old orthopedic surgeon and general practitioner from Bangladesh died on March 31.

Dr. Mohammed Sobhi: The Egyptian intensive care specialist at King Faisal Medical Complex in Taif passed away on June 30. Sobhi, who was in his fifties, was known by his colleagues for being kind-hearted and they were hurt by news of his death. He played an important role and was on the frontline of the battle against the pandemic until he started experiencing complications arising from a COVID-19 infection.

Dr. Naeem Khalid Choudhry: A Pakistani staff member in the general surgery department at Hira General Hospital in Makkah lost his life to COVID-19 on June 4. He started showing mild symptoms on May 14, but continued to perform his duties. Choudhry, 46, was very popular due to his professionalism, never showing any sign of hesitation when treating COVID-19 patients.

Dr. Mohammad Shafiullah (Ranak): The Bangladeshi doctor, who was a consultant in medicine at King Salman Hospital in Riyadh, died on June 19 after contracting COVID-19 while treating patients. He helped thousands of Bangladeshi patients, giving advice over the telephone during the pandemic outbreak.

Dr. Yaser Haza’a: The head of the ER department at Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Hospital in Jeddah passed away on Aug. 6. The 50-year-old medic from Deir Ezzor, Syria, was praised by many of his colleagues for his sense of responsibility and care toward patients and colleagues alike.

Nujood Al-Khaibari: A 45-year-old Saudi nurse who was working at Ohud Hospital in Madinah contracted the infection and passed away on June 9. She was known for her dedication and passion and worked as a nurse for 18 years at Dowaima Health Center, Al-Awali Health Center and Qaba Health Center. A hospital was named after her and the Nujood Medical Center was inaugurated a month after her death.
