Abdul Latif Jameel Motors unveils 2023 Lexus RX

Abdul Latif Jameel Motors — Lexus is bringing unparalleled levels of elegance and refinement to the high-end crossover market in Saudi Arabia with the launch of the new RX. The fifth-generation RX has been completely reimagined to deliver greater style, comfort and performance than ever before and comes with a choice of three powertrains, two of which are electrified to contribute to the realization of a carbon-neutral society.
First launched in 1998, the Lexus RX has created the blueprint for luxury crossover utility vehicles and set the tone in the segment ever since. The 1998 Lexus RX 300 was the world’s first luxury crossover, while the 2006 Lexus RX 400h was the world’s first hybrid electric luxury crossover. The choice of two electrified powertrains comes as part of the “Lexus Electrified” vision announced in 2019, which aims to achieve significant performance improvements through electrification technologies. The company is on track to achieve a full lineup of electrified vehicles in all categories by 2030 and aims to sell 100 percent BEVs globally by 2035.

The new 5th generation RX model delivers the “Lexus Driving Signature” uniquely, thanks to the outstanding credentials of the platform and the powertrains. The new RX platform dropped by a staggering 90 kg in the vehicle’s weight and a 10 mm reduction in its overall height, resulting in a 15 mm lower center of gravity. In addition, the wheelbase is extended by 60 mm, while a wider track combines with 21-inch wheels to give the 2023 RX a confident stance and stronger grip.
The new Lexus RX is built on Lexus’ Global Architecture K platform and delivers excellent body rigidity and a low center of gravity, guaranteeing a more rewarding driving experience.

We are very happy to launch the new generation of Lexus RX, which expresses the new design of the next generation of future Lexus cars, and combines dynamism and advanced technology.

Mazin Ghazi Jameel, Executive Director of Marketing, Abdul Latif Jameel Motors

Complementing the RX’s distinctive design is a thrilling drive personality infused by three powertrain options. A newly developed inline 4-cylinder, 2.4-liter turbocharged engine that produces 275 HP and 430 nm of torque is mated to a new 8-speed direct-shift automatic transmission. Meanwhile, the new hybrid-electric system combines a 2.5-liter petrol engine and electric motor to produce a total of 247 HP, which is coupled to an electronically controlled continuous variable transmission to provide a fuel consumption value of 20.7 Km/L. A hybrid-electric system pairing a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine with an electric motor is also available, which provides a combined power of 366 HP coupled to a 6-speed automatic transmission that offers fuel consumption of 15.5 km/L while delivering a new level of driving pleasure.
A sleeker silhouette has been developed by extending the bonnet, lengthening the wheelbase by 60 mm, and lowering the roofline by 10 mm to create a coupé-like feel.
The 2023 RX’s interior offers ample luggage space and five newly designed luxury seats with excellent legroom, including an eight-way adjustable powered driver seat.
The 2023 Lexus RX comes in a refined range of colors that allow discerning owners to customize their vehicles according to their tastes. Customers can choose from nine distinctive exterior colors, including the newly developed Sonic Copper.

Honeywell solutions enhance warehouse efficiency

Global technology leader Honeywell has revealed the latest trends for warehouses across the region, with increased demands for efficiencies bolstering technology adoption and growing the e-commerce sector.

In the Middle East, there is a spike in demand for efficiency in warehouses to ensure workers are fast and effective in distribution. Warehouses are integral for retail and serving digital converts, with around nine out of 10 customers in the region intending to continue buying online since the pandemic.

The market for e-commerce is buoyant and remains focused on fulfilling customer demands for convenience. This has created a need for innovative tools and insights to manage the pace and scale of the growth being witnessed across industries. A recent report revealed that the MENA region’s total e-commerce market size reached $37 billion in 2022, with a double-digit growth rate from 2021 and a 32 percent compound annual growth rate over the 2018-2022 period.

In the Middle East, the appetite for investment in digital transformation is building rapidly as regional governments move toward “smart” strategies and initiatives as part of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Digitization is enabling warehouse operations to become smarter, less error-prone and more predictable. Honeywell mobile solutions for transport, logistics and warehousing empower workers to better perform their day-to-day tasks and enhance people’s skills and processes to achieve greater efficiency, accuracy and employee experiences.

“Digital transformation is key to keeping ahead of rapidly increasing market demands and to remain resilient amidst unpredictable supply chains. The pressure to increase levels of efficiency and productivity has never been greater in distribution and fulfillment operations, and digitalization is a key factor to deal with today’s challenges and prepare for the future. In that space and beyond, Honeywell supports retailers and e-commerce companies by ensuring warehouse operators can improve performance through upskilled and a more productive workforce,” said Minda Xu, vice president and general manager, high growth regions, safety and productivity solutions at Honeywell.

Through intelligent, data driven and automated processes, Honeywell’s portfolio of mobile devices enables the digital transformation of a warehouse to increase reliability and maximize productivity for efficient supply chains. Advanced Honeywell solutions are helping solve current warehouse challenges and enabling faster order fulfillment. Two examples of such solutions include the CT47 Handheld Computer and the CW45 Wearable Computer.

The CT47 is an all-purpose mobile device designed to provide 5G data connectivity and communications for workers in both indoor and outdoor warehouse environments. By connecting mobile computers to 5G networks, workers can experience significant improvements in productivity and efficiency, including faster data transfer speeds, better reliability for devices to remain online throughout the entirety of workers’ shifts, and the ability to have more assets connected to the same network at once.

Comfortable, powerful and easy to use, the CW45 brings the power and durability of Honeywell mobile computing into a compact, ergonomic wearable device. It helps streamline common tasks that previously required users to juggle handheld devices with the goods they are processing, leaving both hands free to accomplish their tasks like picking and packing, stocking and assembly, eliminating wasted motion and increasing productivity.

NASA visit fuels imagination of Dunes students

Students of the Alkhobar-based Dunes International School were recently taken on an educational trip to the Kennedy Space Center Orlando, one of NASA’s renowned field launch sites.

The NASA tour, the second one organized by the school, offered an extraordinary and transformative experience to its students. This immersive adventure not only broadened the students’ horizons but also ignited their passion for space exploration.

“Our students enjoyed unlimited access to a three-day robotic program, the space simulator shuttle launch experience, an IMAX film screening, the Rocket Garden and the Space Shuttle Atlantis,” the school said in a press release. “An eagerly anticipated rendezvous with Sam Gemar, an esteemed astronaut, further fueled our students’ curiosity and ambition. The excited students delved into the intricacies of programming and artificial intelligence and participated in track and surface challenges, where they added another feather to their caps by obtaining the highest score among the competitors.”

Besides exploring the space center, Dunes students enjoyed additional treats by indulging in fun and adventure activities at Universal Studios and Disneyland. Next, they had a once-in-a lifetime experience at Niagara Falls, Maid of the Mist, and Niagara National Park. Their hectic schedule with curated events in Washington, DC, included guided tours of the White House, Capitol Hill, the Jefferson and Lincoln Memorials, plus a memorable concluding experience at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum.

“We would not have achieved this major milestone without the vision and support of our School Director Amjad Khan, who envisions Dunes as a pioneer institution in the region, harmonizing modern day technologies with Saudi Arabia’s ambitious Vision 2030, thus advocating our school motto — ‘In sync with future.’”

The trip required comprehensive planning and dedication to make it a success. Vice Principal Shahzad Bilal took on the responsibility of guiding and supervising the entire expedition. Supporting him fully were Academic Supervisor Rachna Rastogi and senior science teacher Nasreen Fatima. They ensured the safety, well-being, and enjoyment of each student throughout the trip.

“The school is very grateful to the ITL Team for facilitating and arranging the tour so that it was as smooth as possible,” the management said.

According to the press release, Dunes believes in exploring and excelling in order to keep an edge over others. Besides successfully running and delivering results in the CBSE curriculum for more than a decade, the school is reopening its British curriculum from KG to Grade 6 for the 2023-24 academic year.

Dunes offers state-of-the-art infrastructure, agreeable classroom ambience, a well-equipped auditorium, and a spacious soccer field among other facilities.
