RIYADH, 27 January 2003 — A Kuwaiti killed in a shootout between police and four wanted men in Riyadh was a soldier in the emirate’s army on a private visit to the Kingdom, a newspaper reported yesterday.
Fayez Abdullah Rashed Al-Zobi, 30, had come to Saudi Arabia two months ago at the invitation of a “Saudi personality” who paid the charges of the furnished apartment where he was killed, Al-Riyadh said.
The shooting took place early Friday when policemen went to the building to check the identity of four men who immediately opened fire. Two police officers and a Saudi civilian were slightly wounded. The four men escaped.
Deputy Interior Minister Prince Ahmed said on Saturday the authorities had no information on the identities of the suspects. (AFP)
