Students from Saudi Arabia’s world-class engineering universities will come together with Shell Saudi Arabia to inspire solutions to tackle the global energy challenge, creating the next generation of Saudi innovators to power Vision 2030.
Students from Saudi universities will participate in Shell Eco-marathon — one of the world’s leading student engineering competitions — following Shell’s signing of an MoU with King Faisal University, Prince Sultan University and Alfaisal University.
The MoU ensures support from Shell to participate and showcase Saudi engineering talents at Shell Eco-marathon Asia-Pacific and the Middle East 2024 and beyond. Previously, Saudi teams participated and distinguished themselves in the 2023 competition in Indonesia. In 2025, the competition will be hosted for the first time in the Middle East, in Qatar.
The MoU between Shell and participating Saudi universities is a testament to a shared vision of achieving a more sustainable future locally and globally.
Shell Country Chairman for Saudi Arabia Mohammed Alzumaia said: “Saudi universities competing in Shell Eco-marathon is a foundation in building a future where innovation drives sustainability. I am inspired by our future engineers and universities, which is a testament to the wise leadership in our education sector. By participating in Shell Eco-marathon, we are offering a platform for our students and engineers to showcase their innovations on a global stage and contribute to realizing a more sustainable future. We are excited to support and witness Saudi students’ continued innovation in building the next most energy-efficient vehicle.”
Shell Eco-marathon is a global academic program that brings the brightest minds together and challenges them to design, build and test ultra-energy-efficient vehicles. The year 2015 marked Saudi Arabia’s first participation in Shell Eco-marathon Asia-Pacific and Middle East competition, and since then the Saudi teams have left their mark on the global stage for over nine years. Participation of Saudi teams has increased in recent years; students go on to careers in engineering and design, which contribute to Vision 2030.
As preparations for the upcoming Shell Eco-marathon season gain momentum, Shell Saudi invites all Saudi universities to join the competition and empower the region’s change-makers of tomorrow.
