- AI, IoT technologies streamline arrivals, reduce waiting times, improve housing allocation, check-in procedures
RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Tourism has launched its smart accommodation service for pilgrims as part of a development initiative during the Hajj season.
The initiative aims to enhance operational efficiency and improve services provided to pilgrims, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Monday.
The service uses artificial intelligence and technologies related to the Internet of Things to improve pilgrims’ comfort and provide a more efficient hospitality experience.
It enables operating entities to track pilgrims’ arrivals in real time and manage housing distribution more efficiently, the SPA added.
The system also measures operational performance through indicators such as arrival times, operating duration, and occupancy rates, while supporting operations rooms with live data for decision-making.
Ministry spokesperson Nasr Al-Ansari said the smart accommodation service enhanced the efficiency of receiving and accommodating pilgrims.
He noted that the service reduced waiting times by allowing pilgrims’ data to be shared in advance with accommodation providers.
Al-Ansari added that the system enabled automated verification of pilgrims’ data without manual procedures, improving accuracy and reducing human error.
He explained that the journey within the system began once the passenger manifest was closed at the arrival entry point.
Pilgrims’ data is then shared with accommodation sites in advance, room allocations are prepared before arrival, and check-in is completed automatically through smart gates that read the Nusuk Card.
Operations are monitored through a unified dashboard, with analytical reports generated through the platform.
The launch of the service reflects the ministry’s commitment to improving the pilgrim experience and helping pilgrims perform their rituals with ease.
