RIYADH: The Omani and Iranian foreign ministers discussed in a phone call ways to create suitable conditions for resuming dialogue and negotiations, Oman's state news agency said on Friday.
They also discussed developments affecting navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
The ministers said it was important to continue talks "to reach understandings that support the resumption of freedom of navigation, its smooth flow, and the security and stability of the region," the report said.
Iran and Oman have been holding their own negotiations on an agreement surrounding managing the Strait of Hormuz.
Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al-Busaidi said on Thursday that lasting security in the waterway required a permanent peace in the region and rejected further escalation.
Meanwhile the United States and Iran appeared no closer to resuming talks of their own as Iran responded angrily to US threats to impose tough economic measures against Tehran.
The two sides have twice announced ceasefire deals aiming to restore the free flow of ships through Hormuz on a path towards ending the nearly six-month-old conflict, but both quickly crumbled.
