Alkhobar-based business conglomerate Eram Group has joined hands with the UN in a major initiative to promote awareness of issues related to the earth.

Eram Animation Lab Pvt. Ltd. , the Cochin-based affiliate of the group, conceptualized the idea of creating an animated series of universal appeal on the theme ‘Save Earth’ to connect with audiences of all age groups especially the youth.

The partnership was announced at Cochin recently in the presence of Siddeek Ahmed, chairman and managing director of Eram/ITL Group, and UN officials Kiran Mehra-Kerpelman and Rajiv Chandran, director and national information officer of the UN Information Center for India & Bhutan respectively.

A nationwide campaign titled ‘Save Mother Earth’ was also launched on the occasion as the project’s first milestone.

“The campaign will focus on promoting sustainable conservation practices among schools in India through a national level contest,” Ahmed, a prominent Saudi-based Indian businessman, told Arab News.

Contest winners will be honored during a ceremony in New Delhi on April 22, 2016, the next Earth Day, in the presence of UN officials, ministers and diplomats.

The animated content developed by Eram Animation Lab is based on the Sustainable Development Goals that are currently being discussed at the UN, which will be endorsed by the international community in September 2015.

“This program is expected to initiate the beginning of a global, first-of-its-kind campaign spanning all 193 countries that are members of the UN,” the Eram chief said.

“We consider this initiative as part of the group’s Corporate Social Responsibility,” he added.

“The first telecast of the animation product will be held in Delhi on Oct. 30, which will mark the 70th anniversary of India joining the United Nations,” said Kerpelman.

Ahmed, who is a dynamic and accomplished business tycoon with investments in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, India, UK, Italy, Korea, Malaysia and Turkey, has won the 16th position in the list of Top 20 Indian business leaders in the Arab world published by Forbes Middle East magazine.
