Sayidaty magazine has won the prestigious Sheikh Rashid Prize for the Humanities for adopting various humanitarian causes.

The awards ceremony was held under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, UAE vice president, prime minister and ruler of Dubai, at Al-Meydan Hotel in Dubai on Oct. 29. The attendees included Sheikh Juma’ bin Maktoum Al-Maktoum, managing director of the Rashid Center, Mariam Othman, general director of the Rashid Center and vice chairwoman of the Supreme Commission of the Prize, senior UAE officials and leading Arab experts and specialists in the humanities, education, psychology, law and the media.

It was the 12th round of the Rashid Forum for the Humanities.

Mohammed Fahad Al-Harthi, editor in chief of Sayidaty magazine and Arab News, received an honorary shield and the award certificate from Sheikh Juma’.

In its citation for the selection of Sayidaty, the prize commission said: “Sayidaty is selected as the recipient of the prize because of its leading role and continuous initiatives to adopt humanitarian causes.”

Al-Harthi thanked the prize commission and said the forum’s theme coincided with Sayidaty’s campaign against the sexual abuse of children. The “White Campaign” was launched earlier this year in cooperation with the National Family Security Program in Jeddah chaired by Princess Adila bint Abdullah.

Al-Harthi said the prize confirms the success of Sayidaty in encouraging Arab women and families to keep up their leading role in education and protecting the most vulnerable members of society. “This has resulted in Sayidaty being read by every family in Saudi society and the Arab world,” he said. Prior to the awards ceremony, the Rashid Forum held a two-hour session, which included Al-Harthi, Saif Al-Jabiri, Mamdouh Mukhtar and counselor Yusuf Sharif. The moderator was the poet Zahi Wehbi.
