Inspection teams of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry seized more than 70,000 spoiled food products at a warehouse located in southern Riyadh, the Saudi Press Agency reported. The seized food products were mostly rotten due to poor storage and the expiration of their shelf life.

The damaged food items were destroyed and those responsible for the warehouse were called to the ministry for further investigation, the agency said.

Earlier, the ministry’s inspection teams together with a joint security force had raided the warehouse after receiving reports of suspected commodities in the store.

Foreign workers, who ran the store, were reportedly mixing detergents with food items, thereby posing risks to human health.

Accordingly, the store was closed and the case was referred to the commission of investigation and general prosecution (CIGP) for procedural action.

The destroyed items included 60,000 biscuit packs, 3,500 300-ml soda drinks, 4,600 cooking oil bottles, and 2,100 tea packs.
