JEDDAH: The Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs Abdul Lateef Al-Asheikh has canceled a bridge-building project because the Jeddah Secretariat does not have the funds to pay for the private properties needed to be acquired to make way for it, according to a report in a local publication on Thursday.

The overpass, for the intersection of Almahjar and King Faisal streets, would have 92.2 percent of it on private property. The Jeddah municipality had filed a request with the ministry to cancel the project and have all funds allocated returned to it, according to a source.

Meanwhile, the municipality has announced that it would build six overpasses and underpasses. This includes underpasses at the intersections of Al-Andalus, Palestine and Al-Hamra roads, King Fahd and Rawdah roads, and Prince Majid and Bani Malik roads.
