TABUK: An expatriate was executed in Tabuk region on Monday after he was convicted of the crime of drug smuggling.

A statement by the Ministry of Interior identified the offender as Ibrahim Mohammed Salim Salman, an Egyptian national.

The man was caught with a quantity of opium in his car as he entered the kingdom’s borders, said the MOI statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

A royal order was issued to execute the accused after the Appeal and Supreme courts affirmed a general court’s ruling that found him guilty as charged.

The Interior Ministry warned that narcotics trafficking is being dealt with resolutely in the kingdom because of the great harm it causes to individuals and the society.
